These valves have a considerable amount of molybdenum and this grade of steel is austenitic stainless steel. It offers better corrosion resistance due to the presence of a higher amount of molybdenum and nickel as compared to others. These valves are more resistant to corrosion as compared to grade 304. It is extremely resistant to corrosion in the presence of a chloride environment. This makes it suitable for a variety of small and heavy industrial operations. Even at elevated temperature, these valves provide high tensile strength, higher creep and high level of stress- rupture strength. That is why it is much more immune to sensitization. These are commonly used in food processing and chemical processing industries.
In general, these offer resistance to a wide range of atmospheric environments including freshwater, saltwater, acids, alkali, etc. These valves portray high resistance to corrosion due to the increased chromium and molybdenum content. And the presence of chromium gives a shiny outer finish. This 316 L is much more resistant to carbide precipitation as compared to its counterparts. This property makes it apt for marine and water-based applications. One cannot harden these by heat treatment. It is much more difficult on the machine in comparison to its competitors.
