Inconel 718 alloy is the molybdenum, chromium, and nickel-based alloy that are designed for resisting wider ranges of severely corrosive atmosphere, crevice corrosion and pitting as well. This nickel steel alloy is displaying very good creep-rupture properties and very good yielding and tensile strength at greater temperatures. This nickel-based alloy is used from the cryogenic temperature to the long term service at the temperature 1200 deg F.
One of the best things about this material is the addition of niobium is permitting age hardening that further allows welding and annealing without any spontaneous hardening at the time of cooling and heating. Furthermore, the addition of niobium is acting with the molybdenum for stiffening the matrix of this material and thus to provide greater strength with no strengthening heat treatment.
